Two UN human rights experts will visit the city of Detroit from 18 to 20 October 2014, to learn more about the impact of large-scale water disconnections on low-income, marginalized and vulnerable groups and their human rights to water and sanitation and to adequate housing.

A US bankruptcy judge, Steven Rhodes, ruling from the bench, declined to stop the city from shutting off water to people who can’t pay their bills and reportedly stated that there exists no enforceable right to free or affordable water.
